Premier Energy have recently returned from exhibiting at the Highways UK conference (NEC, Birmingham). The two day event was ideal for businesses involved in infrastructure projects and all sectors were in attendance including contractors, planning, engineering, consultancy, surveying and manufacturing.
With our involvement earlier this year in Highways England’s A14 upgrade project, this was an ideal conference to showcase our Premier Asset Layered Map (PALM) and Utility Record Search (URS) to a wider audience. For those who don’t know we produced a PALM and URS for Highways England covering a 30km length of road between Cambridge to Huntingdon. The final delivery comprised 30 tiles of utility mapping all delivered in a single pdf and dwg format, with each tile interactively linked to the relevant URS report. In total, 2000 sheets of underground asset information covering 6000 hectares from 17 utility suppliers were mapped.
Footfall was steady on both days with over 2,200 visitors, 90 exhibitors and over 100 speakers at various seminar locations across the venue. We came away with 25 new business contacts along with many positive feedback reviews from existing customers. Already this week we’re producing new fee proposals and have already started work on a new URS/PALM project as a direct result of our hands-on demonstration of the interactive PALM pdf.
The recurring theme when infrastructure projects were discussed this year, were the 4 H’s – Hinkley Point, Heathrow, HS2 and Highways. With so many opportunities available and the development focus for Highways UK 2017 looking at technology and innovation, we’re hoping the PALM can be a showcase product at next year’s conference.
